FISH & SENDIASS - Edition 22 - Thursday 13 July 2017

Spotlight on...Lifestyle Project  - Humberside Police is running the Lifestyle Project again this year. Here is some information on the project – you can sign up at  Since 1989 Lifestyle has encouraged young people in the Humberside area to spend their summer holidays raising money, helping vulnerable members of society and leaving a lasting legacy in their communities. Lifestyle is for young people aged 10-18. Whilst Lifestyle creates many positives for local communities and their residents, it also gives local officers the opportunity to engage with young people building lasting relationships and helping to divert them away from Crime and Anti-social Behaviour.

Fostering and short breaks – information event Thursday 13 July 2017

Fostering and Short breaks - East Riding of Yorkshire Council is looking to recruit new foster carers who can offer short breaks to children with a disability, Autism or ADHD.  This could be looking after a disabled child for anything from a few hours a week, or a regular weekend stay in the foster carers’ own home and they would receive an allowance.  Anyone wanting to find out how to become a foster carer is welcome to go along.  At the information event, people interested in becoming a foster carer will have an opportunity to talk to fostering social workers and discuss suitability; meet foster carers and their birth children; talk to looked-after young people and hear about their experiences; and find out about free professional training.   Prospective foster carers should ideally be over 25, they can be single, married or co-habiting. People with or without families, heterosexual, lesbian or gay, can be foster carers.   Dave Glenville, the council’s fostering team leader, said: “We are particularly looking for people who care about children and young people who need help, care and support at difficult times in their lives. “Foster carers and their families are exceptional people. If you have the desire to help and can give the time, energy and commitment, we strongly recommend you to come along to the information event and find out how you can become involved in the much needed and highly worthwhile role as foster carer for East Riding children.''

If you have any questions please email: wanted - Autistic Dreaming: A study of dreaming and well-being.
I am currently researching for an independent, privately-financed PhD at Sheffield Hallam University; my supervisor is Dr Luke Beardon.  This study is investigating how people with autism experience dreaming and any impact that they perceive it has upon their well-being.  I am looking for participants with a diagnosis of ASC who are over 18.  You will be providing information about your dreaming experiences.  This will be in the form of an interview in which you would be able to tell me about your dreaming experiences and this might last for up to 90 minutes, or could be split over a series of meetings.   I would be able to conduct these interviews at your home or other setting such as a Children’s Centre.
