Domestic Abuse: Guidance & Support for the Armed Forces Community

A concerned family or friend?

It can be difficult to know what to do if you suspect a friend or neighbour is a victim of domestic abuse. Advice on how to help and support a friend is available on the Women's Aid and mankind websites.

In an emergency always call 999. It is important to report any incident of domestic abuse where a child is present, or where the woman is pregnant, to the local authority Children’s Social Care Services at county level to ensure the children’s safety.

Combat Stress

Combat Stress is the  UK’s leading charity for veterans’ mental health.
For almost a century, we’ve helped former servicemen and women deal with issues like trauma, anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder. Today, we provide support to veterans from every service and every conflict. On the phone and online. In the community and at our treatment centres.
We’re on a mission to raise awareness that invisible injuries can be just as hard to cope with as physical ones. So when a veteran is having a tough time, we’re there to help tackle the past and to help them take on the future.

A test version of a new government service has launched to remind drivers by text message and email when their MOT is due.

The GOV.UK service, developed by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA), makes it easy to get a reminder every year when your vehicle’s MOT is due.
When you sign up, you’ll get a reminder:
  • 4 weeks before your MOT is due
  • 2 weeks before your MOT is due, if you still haven’t had it tested
You’ll also get alerts that your vehicle no longer has an MOT.
You just need the vehicle’s number plate (registration number) and a mobile phone number or email address.
You’ll get a reminder every year until you unsubscribe.
The aim of Alcohol Awareness week is to get people thinking about alcohol - how it affects us as individuals, families, communities and society as a whole. Harms from alcohol go much further than the liver, it can cause high blood pressure and is also linked to diabetes, depression and cancer.

Forces Network - Remembrance

Brits don’t know how many

military personnel have died in conflict
·  92% of Brits don't know how many members of the British Armed Forces have died in wars and conflicts (both combat and peacekeeping missions) since the start of WWI
·  85% of Brits are not aware of more than half of the conflicts which the British Armed Forces have been involved in since WWII
·  More than a third (37%) are unaware of any of the conflicts which the British Armed Forces are currently involved in
·  59% of Brits think that schools should teach pupils more about conflicts that the British Armed Forces have been involved in since WWII

As the nation gets set to remember the efforts of our armed forces, new research released today by the Forces Network highlights the lack of knowledge of many Brits, when asked about the conflicts we have been involved in since the First World War. How can we remember if we don’t know?

How To Maintain A Good Credit Record When You’re In The Military

Are you a good or a poor credit risk? You may not know until you submit
an application for a loan or credit. Here are some top tips on how to maintain
a healthy credit score, regardless of your location.
The result can sometimes be surprising. Moving around with the military

doesn’t always help your credit score, although significant effort has been
made in recent years to improve awareness within the financial industry of
the circumstances of military personnel.

How does a credit rating score work?
Your credit score measures you as a financial risk. A poor credit score can make

it difficult to borrow money. This can affect your application for credit cards,
motor finance, a mortgage and other services such as mobile phone contracts.

How is your credit risk measured?
All lenders want different things and have their own ways of scoring but are

likely to take into account the following:
  • Occupation
  • Address history
  • Length of employment
  • Annual Income
  • Previous and existing creditors and your credit payment history
  • County Court Judgments
